My practice pivots around narrative and the articulation of space through architecture. As the architecture of a space is dictated by functionality, I am interested in the forms and structures used in architecture that articulate the purpose, history and, as a result, the narrative of the space.

My work evolves from these interests, but also my own personal experience of exploring a space. I look for materials and forms that, through my response and a process of making, abstracting and affecting, will re-articulate and open up an elsewhere space in a gallery environment.

For me, making is the physical manifestation of my experience and understandings of a space. I explore shapes, forms and observations through the medium of drawing, collage, 3D objects and raw image. By working and re-working architectural forms, lines, shapes and images, I create ingredients – spatial elements, configured in 2D and 3D, rearranged and displayed in a refined formation – that then becomes an edited, larger piece of work that holds the required narrative and articulation of the space.

The spaces that interest me are often un-used and abandoned urban spaces. A large part of my interest in the narrative of the space is what happens to it after a space is used. This is because over time, the overall landscape of the space is often added to or affected, whether by nature or the actions of the public. From this, new and interesting forms, shapes and structures are created. It is this narrative of affectation that comes out of my re-articulations of the space.
